Jaguar Drops Plans for Super Car and Concentrates on Electric Car
After the release of the much-popularized James Bond film, Jaguar, one of the leading car manufacturing companies in the world, was rumored to be in the process of making the C-X75 supercar that was featured in the movie, but for commercial purposes. Unfortunately, the company has disclaimed the rumors and said that it was concentrating on building two new electric cars that they will redefine the meaning of “electric cars” by 2019.
The two cars are expected to compete for a share of the market with Tesla and German cars. The electric salon car will replace the XJ luxury salon car while the electric SUV will compete with the taller Model X. According to Automobile Magazine, the large electric saloon car that is current being assembled is referred to as X590 internally. It comprises of a four-door coupe and a special rear hatch.
According to the report, the electric saloon car will be launched into the market one year before the rival German car manufacturer releases its own version of an electric car. It is also rumored that the electric model will be sold alongside a conventional XJ.
At first, the company had decided to use the SUV Range Rover design to build the electric saloon car. After a number of meetings, the company resolved to sell the car as a Jaguar. Nonetheless, the car has a sleek and luxurious look and is aerodynamically efficient. It will most likely be rated as an SUV in most parts of North America as it has all the defining features of an SUV.
In a bid to meet the diverse target audience needs and expectations, the SUV will have one motor or two motor, varying performances, different battery packs, and different charge times. In terms of sales, Jaguar expects to achieve between 20,000 and 30,000 sales of electric saloon car and 30,000 and 50,000 sales of the electric SUV.
